So someone said they didn’t understand this and I was going to explain it but I can’t find the link anywhere, arghhh!
This is Bowie’s acolyte character from the 1.Outside album.
It’s inspired by an older artist who I want to say was Russian or something like that? Anyway, this artist dude created a ton of disturbing photographs, a lot of them with a medical theme.
One of them looks almost exactly like this with the fish and everything, and Bowie was just copying it.
I can’t remember the artist’s name for the fucking life of me though! Does anyone remember it?
I’ve spent about twenty minutes using every combination of words I could think of to search but I haven’t had any luck.
David Bowie’s “Lodger” album, 1979
The cover for “Lodger” was a collaboration between David Bowie, the photographer Brian Duffy and Derek Boshier.
This image of David Bowie as an accident victim with a broken-nose was used on the front cover of his 1979 album, “Lodger”, the last of Bowie’s “Berlin Trilogy.” For the cover, Duffy collaborated with British pop artist Derek Boshier, who was responsible for the original design.
